This will be our final assignment for this class. It will be due on the scheduled day of our final, Thursday May 7, 8-10 am. Please post to your blog prior to class time!
This assignment should be approached with courage, excitement and dedication. Your goal is to shoot a Photo story. What I am hoping for is a series of images that have visual consistency; ideally they would tell a story when presented together.
There are many examples in your textbook in Ch.11 that will help give you ideas. There are many actual photo stories there, take advantage of that resource.
Your story can be narrative, that has a problem and a resolution. If your topic lends itself better for the Editorial Photo Essay, with a particular point of view, that is ok. You could also approach it with the Documentary style in mind, like the FSA photographs, where you the photog remains neutral and present a wide variety of viewpoints. Try to find a topic that you can draw the viewer into with images. You also should look for a topic that will have some sort of action taking place that you can photograph.
Have fun and use your camera as your voice!!!
What is due____________
You will need to include an appx. 300 word essay that goes along with you images. Include photo captions as well.

Shoot-Artificial Lighting
Good Morning,
It is raining today, so it's a good time to work on studio lighting! We are going to be in our studio upstairs using hot lights. Your assignment is to photograph either a portrait or product shot. You need to use the lights in the studio, OR use natural light that is available upstairs or outside but you need to use reflectors or fill flash.
Research images that use studio lighting, in particular, product shots.
This is due Tuesday April 14. Post 1-3 images to the blog.

Shoot-Feature
Buenas noches!
Great discussion last Thursday about Ethics, thank you for sharing your perspective. Please remember that this is a big part of this class, so keep up the participation!
This week, we embark on another adventure. We are going to start on the less time sensitive aspect of Photojournalism with "Features". We will view a video in class tomorrow that is very powerful and hopefully will help generate some ideas for your own topics, as well as discussion. Please do not miss this day!
We will also do some group brain storming to get your started thinking about how to find your feature. For this assignment, we are going to approach it like a 'photo column' of sorts, or blog even. The photographs should be timeless, an everyday slice of life that is unique. You can generate your own subject on this one! We will also be writing a short paragraph to go along with the photo on your blog.
Due: Thurs. March 20
What: Post to blog 2-3 photographs with 3-5 sentence paragraph to go along with the feature.
see you soon!

Shoot-Candid Portrait
The candid image is the opposite of the classic photograph that is precise and perfectly set up. Candid photographs are unplanned, spontaneous and show immediacy. Henri-Cartier Bresson could be called the King of the candid photograph and is known for capturing the "Decisive Moment", of everyday life. Arthur Fellig, known as Weegee, captured New York City street life and is known for his candid, gritty images.
For this assignment, you are to photograph one person, not to tell the story of their life, or who they are, but to capture the moment they are living in. This will be a challenge if you are trying to set up the image too much, so be prepared! Carry your camera with you and be ready for that spontanous moment. Remember to consider all the other things we have talked about, such as background, lighting, shutter/aperture and composition.
Keep up the good work, you are all becoming great photographers!
Image due: beginning of class, shoot at least 24 images, you will then narrow down your choices for us to see during class to 5! You will then have time to post them during class.
